Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian at Bedok 85 market (Fengshan Food Centre) - Most delicious Soupy Bak Chor Mee!

Mention 85 Bedok market (Fengshan Food Centre) and the first thing that pops into our minds is Bedok Bak Chor Mee. I have been patronising Bedok Bak Chor Mee for more than a decade. I think that it is delicious. Once you step into the market, you will be confused because there are two Bak Chor Mee stalls side by side and there is another one somewhere in the market. Which one to order from?

If you are a first-timer, of course you need to try the Famous One - Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mee. Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mee has been selling their unique version of Bak Chor Mee since 1968. "The broth derives its flavour and sweetness from pork bones while the noodles are prepared in a secret traditional method."

Soupy Bak Chor Mee
Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian is different from the usual Bak Chor Mee that one usually eats - the dry version with some mushrooms and meat. Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian is served in a bowl of tasty soup filled with the fragrance of minced pork and deep fried pork lard. I always enjoy the slightly QQ texture of the noodles. The most delicious part is the soup and the generous amount of minced meat. Most people, including me, will feel that it is overrated the first time you are trying it. You probably will find it strange why it is even famous in the first place as you pick up strands of noodles with processed meat balls. What is even stranger is the fact that one day, you will miss the soup, noodles and meat balls.

It is opened till 1.30am so it is a good place for supper too. Be prepared for a long wait but the good news is that the noodles will be served to your table. Order something else to munch while waiting for your soupy Bak Chor Mee. Seng Hiang, which is just beside it, sells exactly the same thing. The waiting time is much shorter but the noodles are not so QQ. Xing Ji's quality is very consistent. It has the same taste, giving the same satisfaction, for the past decade.
